We get asked about hardwood floors regularly, and we always give an honest answer: solid hardwood is generally not recommended for Southwest Florida homes. The humidity swings between wet season and dry season cause solid hardwood to expand and contract significantly, leading to cupping, gapping, and buckling over time.
Engineered hardwood is a better option — its layered construction is more dimensionally stable than solid wood. However, it's still not waterproof, and prolonged moisture exposure will damage it.
